Jellylose is a type of nanocellulose obtained purely by microbial fermentation on a large scale and environmentally friendly production method.
Sumatrix Biotech uses biotechnology to transform waste into high-value products. Glucose and nitrogen obtained from waste sources are used by bacteria during microbial fermentation and turn into Jellylose. Although Jellylose is a polysaccharide with beta-1,4-glycosidic linkage and molecular formula (C6H10O5)n, similar to plant-based cellulose, it exhibits more interesting microstructure and distinctive properties.
-
- Jellylose consists of an ultra-pure nanocellulose.
- Jellylose consists of an ultra-fine nanostructured three-dimensional fibrous network with a diameter of 10-100 nm. Thus, higher surface area and porous structures are obtained with these materials.
- Jellylose has high water holding capacity due to its hydroxyl groups on the surface.
- Jellylose has excellent mechanical properties, and its tensile strength and Young’s modulus can reach 20.8 GPa and 357.3 MPa, respectively.
- Jellylose shows thermal stability up to 350°C.
Jellylose is a sustainable source of raw materials in the medical, cosmetic, paper, food and textile industries.
